Are You Chicken
It all begins with an idea.
Summary
Most of us have heard of the game of chicken, but this game isn’t only played in cars in movies, it’s played n real life at all levels. We take a look at the game and how you can win.
Are You Chicken?
We’re probably all familiar with the game of chicken, but if you’re not, here’s what it is. The game chicken is played when two cars are driven towards each other at speed, the driver who turns his vehicle away from the other first is the chicken and the other one wins. My classmates used to playa variation on this game where we all took turns in running towards a brick wall and the one who could get the closest to the wall before stopping was the winner, the other was chicken.
How should you play?
As is often the case, your chance of winning this game, or coming out of it alive, rest on your ability to predict your opponent’s move. If you know the other guy is stubborn and won’t allow you to win, you should take the hit and be the chicken, or you could end up in hospital. But if your opponent is less of a risk-taker you can push them to their limits and wait until they’ve backed down before you do. The question is, are you the kind of person who won’t lose at any cost or are you smarter than that?
How to manipulate your opponent
The best way to play this game and win is to hustle. If you make it very clear to your opponent before the game that there is no way you are prepared to be the chicken and that you’ll play to the death, your opponent, believing this, will choose to be the chicken and survive. This hands you the win on a plate, of course you never meant to take it to the death, but as long as your opponent believes you will, you can win. It’s important that you are weighing up your opponent here and you are sure they are the kind of person who will go for this. If you think they might call your bluff and be prepared to smash their own faces on the wall in order to win, don’t hustle with them.
When is this game played?
The game of chicken is played all the time. It’s most often seen on the big stage of politics where world leaders will threaten other world leaders with drastic and sometime scatastrophicaction. This is a risk, as they usually don’t intend on going through with it, but as long as their opponent believes they are crazy enough to push the button, they can win. The answer is, neither side intends on pushing that button, so it’s a game of bluff, but the one who can create a belief of their stubbornness and determination to win in others, is the one who will win. When I played this game at school I would unconsciously size up the other kid before we started. Sometimes I would win because I knew they wouldn’t have the balls to run as close to the wall as me, and sometimes I chose to be the chicken because the other kid was crazy enough to smash their face in. It’s all about prediction
